It has been 27 years since Masood Rana, the versatile playback singer of the Pakistani film industry, left his fans, but his songs will always resonate in the air. Masood Rana also started a music group in Karachi in 1955 which included big names like singers Akhlaq Ahmed and Nadeem Baig. He was introduced to the film industry by actor Saqi through producer and director Shahzad Iqbal and the first film song was "He sang for "Inqlab" but he got his real fame from the film "Banjaran" after which he soon became one of the leading singers in Punjabi and Urdu.


 He has a long list of popular songs including the song "Tum Hi Ho Mehboob Mere Mere Kyun Na Tum Se Pyaar Kaur" from the movie "Aeena" and the song "Koi Saath De Ke Na Saath De Yeh Safar Akan Hi Kaat" from the movie "Badnaam".  Masood Rana's song "Mere Dil Ki Hai Awaaz Ke Bachhra Yaar Milega" in director M. Sadiq's first and last film in Pakistan "Baharu Bhol Barsao" became very popular. His songs were also popular in movies like Hemri, Nazanin, Mitrai Maa, Zaildaar, Morcha, Gabhruput Punjab De, Langotiya, Makhra Chinvarga, Sheeran Di Jodi, Jawani Mastani, Roti and many more.

 Along with Urdu, he has also sung many hit songs for Punjabi films including Tange Wala Khair Mangda, Sajnaan Ne Bohe Age Chik Tan Lai, Yaran Naal Baharan Sajnaan, Souch Ke Yar Banawe Bandiya, Tere Hath Ki Bedarde Aya Phalan Jaya Dil.  Masood Rana was a dervish who, despite a successful film career, could not even build his own house in Lahore.
